Damiana is currently used as a liqueur ingredient in Mexico.

Caution: Higher doses of damiana may induce a sense of euphoria - operating an automobile after using damiana is not encouraged. The leaves have a minor laxative effect.

It was used as an aphrodisiac in ancient Mayan culture (no doubt with chocolate!), and monks reported the Mexican Indians would prepare a drink made from Damiana before lovemaking for greater power.

Research suggests that in some of the fertility rituals of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, smoking tobacco mixed with Damiana excited and stimulated the participants, allowing them to keep pace (and we thought the Romans had all the fun!)

Damiana can be added to potions and spells to increase arousal and sexual energy.  Useful for those who use kundalini, sacred sex or tantric energy as part of their worship or spell working.

Damiana isn't just a herb of lust though, it can also be a potent ingredient in love charms and spells.  Linked with the Page of Cups in the Tarot this herb can be used to attract a new partner, or add a youthful new energy to an existing relationship.   Also a useful herb for promoting self love, and greater confidence in relationships.  Self love and self confidence is one what makes us stand out from the crowd and get noticed!

Damiana was burnt in a ceremonious manner to enable visions.  This is probably why it is said to induce visions when burned during rituals, and when made into a tea it can promote psychic awareness.

Many people claim to grow or supply Dittany but usually it turns out to be common oregano. It has a reputation for enhancing manifestations when performing evocation, and for increasing one's ability to Astral Project. The locals call it "eronda" which means love for its aphrodisiac properties. Popular in Minoan Crete and Ancient Greece, it was considered highly therapeutic plant. Hippocrates recommended it for stomach and
digestive system diseases, rheumatism, arthritis and used it to regulate menses, to tone and heal. It was named after the mountain Dikty (Lassithiotika) where it teemed.
